Keeping It Green - Our Eco Chalets

Savoie Holidays Ecotourism chalet promise 2011

All of our staff are sensitive to the environment we live in and especially the fragile environment we work in. So we are always keen to learn new ways to lower our carbon footprint, provide funds for ecological conservation and of course take direct action ourselves in our work place.

We have provided all our staff/chalets with the information to help them be responsible and to minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment. We have tried to evaluate the most realistic ways we can promote recycling, water conservation and energy efficiency in our businesses. We have committed to initiating these points below this year in as many of our chalets as possible and are committed to working and improving our negative impact in the coming year.

Energy Efficient Bulbs
Using energy efficient light bulbs instead of incandescent, can save up to 70% on the energy use and lighting costs.

Control of energy usage
Stopping energy waste by machines and systems when guests have left their rooms. By ensuring machines and systems aren’t left on stand by. Controlling the temperature better in rooms that aren’t in use as well as managing the building temperature. Avoiding the need to open windows. Keep shutters and curtains closed when possible.

Efficient use of Lighting and Equipment
Training our staff to incorporate good energy conservation practices into daily operations. Turning un used lights and appliances when they have finished. Turn off vehicles when they are not in use.

Cleaning products
Maximise the use of eco friendly cleaning products in the office and around the chalets.

Managing waste.
Starting from the menu choices in our chalets. Avoid purchasing food items in single-portion packages. Aiming to cut and lower our waste by re using and recycling waste properly.

Helping guests to recycle by supplying re useable bags and mini bins in bedrooms.

Save Water
Replace existing shower and tap units with lower flow units to achieve substantial water and energy costs. Train and encourage staff to not waste water in the kitchen and around the chalets.

Toilet management
Making sure staff report faulty toilets immediately, keeping toilets maintained to reduce water wastage.

House Keeping
Giving guests the choice of a towel change during mid week Using Eco friendly washing liquids from large containers and concentrated cleaning chemicals.

Making the office a greener place
We are cutting back on the printing of e mails and office documents and reminding our selves and customers to think before we print.
